Snowshoe Rentals & Programs

Rentals and programs are hosted at the Recreation Activities Center,
located in the Civic Center Complex at 4640 Walnut Lake Rd., West Bloomfield, MI 48323

Snowshoe Rentals

Youth & Adult Sizes Available!
Sizes are based on weight, not shoe size.
$6 for a 2 hour rental per person
Rentals are available at the Recreation Activities Center from 8 am-4:30 pm Monday - Friday. They are also available during Nature Room Open Hours. Snowshoes must be returned 15 minutes before close of business, currently 4:30pm, or before the end of Nature Outdoor Explorer Open Hours.
  • Must leave driver’s license or photo ID as a deposit.
  • Must be used on Civic Center Trails only.
  • There must be at least 3 inches of snow on the ground in order to rent snowshoes.
  • You must wear boots in order to rent snowshoes.
  • If you are new to snowshoeing, we invite you to attend a snowshoe program or Nature Outdoor Explorer Open Hours
    for a brief tutorial, as limited instruction will be available at time of rental. 

Naturalist-Guided Snowshoe Programs

Registration opens January 20.

Learn more about rentals and how to snowshoe with this quick video:

Take a guided snowshoe hike through the snow covered forest with your valentine. Listen to the crunch of snow and maybe even the hoot of owls, while you experience the magic of a winter walk. After exploring the forest with your sweetie, get cozy by the campfire and roast a s’more while the Naturalist teaches you the love language of a variety of animals. Snowshoes are provided. No snowshoe experience is needed. A hike will be substituted if there is not enough snow to use snowshoes. We will remain outdoors for the entire program and social distancing will be required between groups. Fee is per person. Register early, this event sells out every year!

Family Snowshoe Hikes
Enjoy the winter wonderland on snowshoes. Learn about snowshoes then strap on a pair. Look for animal tracks along the trail. Instruction and snowshoes provided. Dress for the weather (water resistant pants and boots). Please note: Program will be cancelled, with full refund, if there are not sufficient snow levels.
